Hi, my name is Guy Tanaka. My discipline iswakeboarding. My philosophy of life is "be proud but never satisfied". The most important person in my life is my parents and my coach. My favourite food is Singapore chicken rice. My favourite music is Eminem.
Born in Japan but living in Singapore for the past 12 years, Guy Tanaka is considered one of the brightest and most promising young talents on the wakeboarding scene today. Guy started wakeboarding at the age of eight and began making waves at international championships, winning his first world title at the tender age of 10. Since then he has amassed a reputation among fellow wakeboarders for fearlessly “going big” in competitions – a reference to his ability to execute technically complex tricks in effortless style.
But what really sets Guy apart from his competition is his mastery of cable and boat disciplines. In 2012, when he was just 12 years old, he concurrently held the WWA World Wakepark Boys Championship (Cable) and WWA World Championship (Boat).
The motto that keeps Guy going and spurs him on is 'Be proud but never satisfied.' "It reminds me that I should always look back and feel proud of how far I’ve come," says Guy. "It also teaches me to never become complacent, but continue working hard to get better at what I am doing.”
