Hi, my name is Hiroto Arai. My discipline is surfing competition. My friends call me Hiro. I was born on 24 March 1995 in Yokohama, Japan. My philosophy of life is stay strong, fit and healthy, and respect others. My favourite food is pizza and sushi. My favourite music is japanese rock and electro.
Those who know him say that Hiroto Arai was clearly born to surf. With a dad who runs a surf shop, 'Hiro' grew up in and around the water, and started surfing when he was just five.
Hiroto has been surfing at international level since 2008, where he made an almost immediate impact. In 2009, he won the All Japan Amateur Championship NSA Champion Games at the age of 14. He followed that up with a fourth place finish at the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships in New Zealand in 2010 when he was just 15.
More recently, Hiro scooped first place at the Murasaki Shonan Open ASP 5-Star Pro Junior in Japan and a second place finish at the ASP Minami Boso Junior Pro.
His goal is to compete on the WQS, but more importantly, to become the first Japanese surfer to compete on the World Championship Tour.
