Hi, my name is Nikita Martyanov . My discipline is wakeboarding boat. I was born on 12 June 1989 in St Petersburg, Russia. My special talent isphotography. My philosophy of life is everything in life is luck. My favourite food is italian. My favourite music is underground hip hop .
Nikita's career wasn't always destined for the water – when the Russian was nine years old, his passions were snowboarding and skateboarding. Every day after school, Nikita would take his board and go to the nearest ski resort to train with friends.
"We always hoped that sponsors would see us in action," says Nikita, whose results in the winter sport were promising, until injury struck.
During and after his recovery, Nikita had the opportunity to decide whether to continue to focus on snowboarding, or whether to concentrate on watersports full-time. He finally decided to stick with wakeboarding – a wise decision it seems, as in 2003 Nikita entered his first international competition in London, taking first place on the podium. For many, it was a surprise win as Nikita was one of very few Russians partaking in the sport at the time.
Following his win in London, Nikita began preparing for the World Cup in Australia, and in September he was awarded the bronze medal at the World Championship Wake, cementing his place in and amongst the pro international wakeboarding scene. Since 2003, Nikita hasn't missed a European or World Championship.
Having bought a MasterCraft X2 in 2008, Nikita has also gone on to set up his own wakeboarding school, with his attentions now focused on passing his skills on to the next generation.
Nikita is all about showcasing his sport and encouraging others to get involved. He's taken part in the Red Bull Ice Wake and Red Bull Highland events, and most recently he contributed to Life is Line, a video series that focuses on the evolution of wakeboarding.
