Hi, my name is Kaya Turski. My discipline is freeski slopestyle and big air. I was born on 3 May 1988 in Montreal, Canada. My special talent is in-line skating. My philosophy of life is always give back. My favourite food is pizza, mediterranean dishes and sushi. My favourite music is Florence & the Machine, Lana Del Rey and Jay-Z.

Since Canadian Kaya Turski hung up her inline skates for a pair of twin tip skis at age 16 and moved to Whistler from her native Montreal to pursue a career in freeskiing, she’s been at the top of nearly every contest she’s entered.

She’s won X Games gold medals, claimed victory at many Dew Tour contests, and she was crowned overall AFP World Champion – named for the world’s most consistent women’s slopestyle competitor over a season’s worth of contests – for five years in a row.

In 2011, she became the first woman to land a switch 1080 in a slopestyle contest and she’s constantly pushing the limit of what’s thought possible. In 2013, Kaya became FIS world champion, confirming her position as queen of the slopestyle.

In January 2014, she won gold at the X Games for the fourth time! Her victory was particularly impressive considering she had just returned from an ACL injury she sustained in the summer. Yet she managed to produce a brilliant run!

Kaya went to the Winter Olympics in Sochi being the favourite for the gold medal. Unfortunately, she failed to make the final after crashing on both her runs in the qualifying rounds. After the games, took an extended break from the sport to reset and recuperate fully from her injury, returning to competitive action in early 2016.

But success, in her mind, is not all about gold medals and flashy tricks. "I think that's the ultimate sign of success – that you enjoy what you’re doing and you’re proud of what you’re doing."
