I am a person driven by passion, living an unorthodox lifestyle.

Being deeply interested in physics and philosophy as a school boy I set out to explore the unknown by studying Theoretical Physics. I finished my studies with excellent grades, but full of doubt. During my studies I had started writing novels. Sport was not a part of my life.

In a time of self reflection I got into sport climbing and tried the very young sport of slacklining which had a great impact on my life. I got more and more obsessed with it and made it to a world class level in the young scene. I was interested in all disciplines of the sport: longlining, tricklining and highlining.

During this time I started to work as a freelance journalist for science topics and kept working on novels. I published some short stories, a textbook about slacklining and managed to sell my first novel. (Learn more about that on my writing-page or on my German writer’s website.)

As an athlete I kept pushing my limits and competed in international contests (Natural Games Millau – 2nd, Austrian Slackline Open – 2nd and 3rd). I got sponsorship by adidas outdoor (till 2016), AustriAlpin, Elephant Slacklines and Gleistein. Lately I got more and more into highlining which is the most complete experience the world of slackline has to offer. I write about my slackline activities in detail on my blog.

Slacklining in the Bush

Zimbabwe – with their slacklines, the pros Lukas Irmler and Reinhard Kleindl went on safari and visited an African school – impressive pictures guaranteed! After fulfilling their longtime dream of crossing the world-famous Victoria Falls gorge on a highline, Lukas Irmler and Reinhard Kleindl, two slackline pros from Germany and Austria, visit Ngamo Primary School at Hwange in Zimbabwe. Their mission: giving back. They surprise the kids with a video about their Victoria Falls adventure and two brand-new slacklines for the school. The latter are tested right away. A heart-warming experience. They crown their trip to Zimbabwe with some game viewing. Lukas Irmler and Reinhard Kleindl spend two days at Hwange National Park. It goes without saying that they set up their slackline everywhere they can. Balancing on a one-inch wide webbing in dizzy heights right in front of the world-famous Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, Africa is an extraordinary dream that has come true for two professional slackliners: After two years of preparation, 26-year old economic science student Lukas Irmler from Germany and 34-year old journalist and author Reinhard Kleindl from Austria, achieved their sought-after goal: balancing on a one-inch wide webbing in a height of 100 metres, right in front of the unique setting of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The two slackliners not only enjoyed a breath-taking view on the 1.7 km-wide and majestic waterfalls, but also the unique sight of a circular rainbow in the spray smother underneath their highline. Lukas said: “We’ve waited for over two years to come here... If it wasn’t the very best, we wouldn’t have waited for two years to experience this moment and get this incredible chance. We will never forget our time here in Zimbabwe and our African highline, which we named “Nyami Nyami” after the Zambezi River God.” Within 10 days the Porsche-Arena was turned into a climbing arena. With very selective boulders the field was cut down in two rounds to 6 men and 6 women. 3,500 enthusiastic spectators came to celebrate the twelve finalists from nine countries on Saturday evening. Pumped up by punkrockband Badasstics, European Beatbox Champion Robeat and the extreme sports DJs Chainsaw and Sungod, the athletes went beyond themselves and delivered extra power when there was actually none left. Their spectacular, powerful and dynamic moves enthused the crowds. In a thrilling superfinal on a dual boulder, on which the two best athletes climb simultaneously an identical route, the 2014 Overall World Cup Champion Akiyo Noguchi (JPN) and the reigning Climbing World Champion Overall, Sean McColl (CAN) claimed the title adidas ROCKSTARS 2014, ahead of lead expert Mina Marcovic from Slovenia and 18-year old Jongwon Chon from Korea.
